Institute

The Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG) was created in 2004 within the Faculty of Communication Sciences. The Institute contributes to the teaching activities at the Bachelor level, particularly by providing the area of specialization in 'Communications and Media', at the Master level, by organizing the Master in 'Media Management', and at the PhD level.

The Institute engages in research activities within the following main areas: the organization and the strategies adopted by media companies; the historical evolution of the production processes and the function of media within different socio-political, economic and cultural contexts; the consumption dynamics of media products within different contexts and by different social groups; the evolution of media-related professions, with particular regard to journalism.

The director of the Institute is Prof. Matthew Hibberd.

Within the Institute there are the European Journalism Observatory (EJO), coordinated by Prof. Stephan Russ-Mohl, and the China Media Observatory (CMO), coordinated by Prof. Gabriele Balbi (director) and Prof. Giuseppe Richeri (honorary president).
